Commercial motor vehicles in interstate service need a periodic inspection at least once every 12 months under the FMCSA rules in 49 CFR Part 396. The inspection has to be done by a qualified inspector, and the report has to be kept on file. Highlyfe Diesel Services does these inspections at your location, so your trucks don't lose a day driving to a shop and back.
What gets checked
The inspection follows the federal minimum periodic inspection standards. That covers:
- Brake system: adjustment, chambers, hoses, lines, drums, rotors and the air system
- Steering: gear box, linkage, play and power steering
- Suspension, frame and fifth wheel or coupling devices
- Tires, wheels, rims and fasteners
- Lighting, reflectors and electrical
- Exhaust and fuel systems
- Windshield, wipers, mirrors, horn and safe-loading items
Repairs on the spot
If something doesn't pass, we tell you what failed and what it takes to fix it. Many common items, such as brake adjustment, lights, air leaks and wiring, can be fixed during the same visit. Bigger repairs get quoted before we start.
Paperwork
You get a completed inspection report for each unit. Under the federal rules, the motor carrier keeps the original or a copy for 14 months, and proof of the inspection has to be kept on or in the vehicle. Ask us about pairing inspections with your fleet PM schedule so they happen on time every year.
Book inspections
Tell us how many trucks and trailers you have and where they're parked. We cover Hillsboro and Highland County, Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus. Call (513) 377-0831 or send a service request.
Trucks, trailers and equipment
We inspect tractors, straight trucks, box trucks, dump trucks and trailers. If you also have pickups or equipment that need work, we can take care of them on the same visit. Many fleets schedule their annual inspections alongside a PM service, so each truck is down only once.
