The Detroit DD15 is the standard engine in most Freightliner Cascadias, so it's one of the engines we see most. Its smaller and larger siblings, the DD13 and DD16, share a lot of the same systems. We service all three at customer locations across our Ohio service area, remotely, and on the bench.
Common DD15 problems we fix
- Aftertreatment. One-box aftertreatment faults, DEF doser and DEF quality codes, NOx sensor failures, and DPF regen problems. See aftertreatment repair.
- EGR. EGR valve, cooler and delta pressure sensor faults.
- Turbocharger. Turbo speed and boost faults, and actuator problems.
- Fuel system. Rail pressure faults, injector problems and the quantity control valve.
- Electrical and communication. CPC and MCM communication problems, harness damage and sensor supply faults.
Modules and programming
The DD platform uses several modules working together: the CPC (common powertrain controller), the MCM (motor control module) and the ACM (aftertreatment control module). Many problems come down to one of them not talking to the others. Using Detroit DiagnosticLink, we run service routines and tests, read and change CPC parameters such as road speed, cruise and idle shutdown, and set up replacement modules where the platform allows.
Out of our area?
Modules can come to our bench through mail-in service, and some diagnostics and parameter work can be done through a remote session if you have the equipment at the truck.
We repair emissions systems rather than remove them. Call (513) 377-0831 with the codes and what the truck is doing, and we'll help you figure out the next step.
Before you call
Have the VIN, the engine serial number, the fault codes and their counts, and a note of when the problem happens: under load, at idle, during a regen, or after a cold start. Details like that help us narrow it down quickly and bring the right parts on a mobile call.
